WGN Names Steve Farber Acting GM

The Tribune Chicago CW affiliate picks Tribune’s programming operations VP to be interim general manager following the move of Marty Wilke to WBBM.

Tribune Broadcasting on Friday afternoon announced that Steve Farber has been named acting general manager of WGN Chicago, effective immediately. Farber, who is currently VP of programming operations for Tribune Broadcasting, is a broadcast veteran who was previously VP-GM of CLTV, Tribune Broadcasting’s 24-hour cable news operation in Chicago. He takes over from Marty Wilke, who has resigned from WGN to be GM of CBS’s Chicago O&O WBBM.

Farber joined CLTV in 1995 and served in various roles of increasing responsibility, including news director and general manager. He spearheaded the successful integration of CLTV into WGN in 2009, and served as VP of operations for WGN-CLTV for two years.

As VP programming operations for Tribune Broadcasting, Farber’s responsibilities include managing the digital multicast network, Antenna TV, and working on the development of new programming.

Farber is a native of Chicago’s northern suburbs and a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
