Other standouts in the week ending Sept. 30 include Judge Judy and Entertainment Tonight, with freshmen entries Trisha, Ricki Lake and Dish Nation all posting gains.

‘Dr. Phil’ Continues To Dominate Talkers
Dr. Phil (CTD) opened up a huge 24% ratings lead over the talk show field, easily topping the category for the third straight session in the week ending Sept. 30.
Phil was the only talker to break through the 3 ratings barrier, holding even with its high mark of the previous frame and growing 3% year to year to a 3.1. Among women 25-54, Phil also had the biggest rating of any show in talk, a 1.7, up 6% week to week.
Live with Kelly and Michael (Disney-ABC) was the second-highest-rated chat fest for the second consecutive week, dipping 4% to a 2.5, but holding steady year to year.
Dr. Oz (Sony) added 4% to a 2.4, but declined 17% from last year at this time; Ellen (WBDTD) eased 4% to a 2.3, but still gained 5% from last year; while conflict talker Maury (NBCU) faded 4%, both week to week and year to year, to a fifth-place 2.2.
In other talk show news, the newly formatted Anderson Live (WBDTD) came to life with the biggest week-to-week increase of any veteran talker, leaping 10% to a 1.1.
Among the freshmen class, Trisha (NBCU), which is cleared on mostly lower-rated independent and CW stations, surged 25% in its second week to a 0.5.
BRAND CONNECTIONS
At the top of the rookie list, Katie (Disney-ABC) had no trouble maintaining its big lead in households with a stable 1.8. Steve Harvey (NBCU) was second with a steady 1.3; The Ricki Lake Show (Twentieth) shot up 14% to a 0.8; and Jeff Probst (CTD) held firm at a 0.7.
Court Shows
Judge Judy (CTD) swamped the court shows and also finished as the top-rated show in all of syndication, beating powerhouse off-net sitcom Big Bang Theory (WBDTD). Judy scored a sparkling 6.8, up 1% both week to week and year to year.
Judge Joe Brown (CTD) was easily second best among the courts, improving 8% to a 2.6; People’s Court (WBDTD) was flat at a 1.8; while Judge Alex (Twentieth) advanced 14% to a 1.6.
Magazine Shows
Magazines were all steady to higher for the week, which began with coverage of the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. Leader Entertainment Tonight (CTD) grew 6% from the prior session to a 3.8 after surging 17% to a 4.2 with its next-day Emmy coverage on Sept. 24.
Inside Edition (CTD) perked up 7% from the week before to a 3.1; TMZ (WBDTD), Access Hollywood (NBCU) and Extra (WBDTD) all held steady at 1.9, 1.7 and 1.5, respectively, remaining at their highest levels of the new season. The Insider (CTD) increased 7% to a 1.5, its best rating in seven weeks. And newcomer Dish Nation (Twentieth) gained 13% to a 0.9 in its third outing.
Game Shows
Game shows were narrowly mixed with Wheel of Fortune (CTD) and Jeopardy (CTD) flat week to week at 6.3 and 5.6, respectively. Family Feud (Debmar-Mercury) was up 5% to a 4.2; Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (Disney-ABC) appreciated 5% to a 2.3; while new gamer Baggage (GSN) lost 9% to a 1.0 in its second week.
Off-Net Sitcoms
Among off-net sitcoms Big Bang Theory eroded 7% from the week before to a 6.5 and finished second overall to Judge Judy. Two and a Half Men (WBDTD) moved up 4% to a 4.9; Family Guy (Twentieth) gave back 3% to a 3.6; How I Met Your Mother (Twentieth) dropped 12% to a 2.2, tying Seinfeld (Sony), which stayed at a 2.2.
Off-Net Weekly Hours
On the weekend, Monk (NBCU) continued to lead the off-net hours with an unchanged 2.8; Law & Order (NBCU) remained second with a steady 2.7; Criminal Minds (CTD) weakened 4% to a 2.3 and landed in a tie with CSI: Miami (CTD), which heated up 5% to a 2.3.
