WDRB to Add Weekend Morning Newscasts

The Block Communications Fox affiliate in Louisville, Ky., will launch a three-hour newscast on Saturday and Sunday  starting Jan. 19.

Block Communications-owned Fox affiliate WDRB Louisville, Ky. (DMA 48), today announced that the station will further expand its local news offerings early next year by adding regular weekend morning newscasts. WDRB Weekend Morning News – which will air every Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 9 a.m.  — will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 19.

“This is the next logical step for our news department,” said WDRB News Director Barry Fulmer. “We already lead the market by offering the most original local news Monday through Friday, and with this latest expansion, we’ll be able to make that claim seven days a week. The ratings show that WDRB in the Morning has been the clear No. 1 choice of weekday morning viewers for some time now, and that makes us confident that we can do just as well on Saturdays and Sundays.”

WDRB President-GM Bill Lamb said: “For a long time, we’ve been asked by viewers if and when we’ll ever start doing weekend morning news,” said, “but we didn’t want to do it until we were confident we could do it right. We believe the right pieces are now in place, and we look forward to giving our loyal viewers the added weekend coverage they’ve requested.”

Co-anchors for the WDRB Weekend Morning News will be will announced at a later date.
