AccuWeather Expands Executive Team

An expanded executive team was announced today by AccuWeather Inc. Jim Candor has been promoted to chief strategy officer, Steven Smith has been promoted to chief digital officer, and John Dokes, formerly of Marvel Entertainment, has been appointed chief marketing officer.

Jim Candor’s new position as chief strategy officer is charged with developing corporate vision and strategies for the entire AccuWeather organization and for each business unit. Candor has most recently been AccuWeather’s EVP and chief business officer for digital media.

Steven Smith, AccuWeather’s new chief digital officer will work closely with Candor and will be responsible for implementing the strategy for digital media through its various product offerings on both desktop and mobile. Candor was previously the chief information officer, leading creation of the infrastructure that now serves over one trillion weather requests per year.

John Dokes, chief marketing officer, will be responsible for branding, visibility, demand creation and lead generation across all AccuWeather business units. He has a long history of creating new products, increasing revenue, and developing innovative marketing initiatives at MTV Network-Viacom and Marvel Entertainment. He previously was SVP of integrated sales and marketing at Marvel Entertainment.

“These changes will allow the company to accelerate its digital growth path, while always continuing to deliver superior accuracy in weather information through all AccuWeather business units,” said Dr. Joel N. Myers, AccuWeather founder, chairman and president. “We are pleased to be able to recognize Jim and Steve, who have played a key role in our explosive digital growth, and welcome the opportunity to strengthen our team with the addition of John, a seasoned media executive.”

In addition, AccuWeather also announced today that it has promoted Loren Tobia, a former chairman of Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), to executive director of sales for the display systems and services division. The company said she will be changed with expanding AccuWeather’s multi-screen content for television and digital platforms.
