NBCU Names Mike St. Peter GM Of NECN

The NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations on Thursday named Mike St. Peter senior vice president and general manager of New England Cable News (NECN).

A broadcast industry veteran, St. Peter brings more than 25 years of local television experience to his new role, most recently as VP of news for WVIT Hartford, Conn., a position he has held for the last seven years.

NECN serves more than 3.7 million homes in more than 1,000 cities and towns throughout New England.

Under St. Peter’s leadership in the newsroom, WVIT has significantly grown its local audience by expanding news coverage, launching the market’s largest investigative team and increasing viewer engagement through social media.

During his tenure, WVIT has covered some of the biggest stories in the northeast, including Hurricane Irene, Hurricane Sandy, the Blizzard of 2012, and the Boston Marathon Bombing. WVIT’s commitment to excellence in journalism has been recognized with numerous Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.

Prior to working at WVIT, St. Peter was the assistant news director at WWOR Secaucus, N.J. (New York) from 1987 to 2006. Previously, he was a managing editor at WKBW Buffalo, N.Y.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

St. Peter began his career in radio as an assignment editor and producer for KFWB-AM Los Angeles. He moved on to become director of news and programming at WEBR-AM Buffalo before moving to local television news in 1985.

A Maine native, St. Peter studied broadcast journalism at the University of Maine.
