KGO And KDTV Launch News Collaboration

The two Bay Area outlets will cross-promote newscasts and share unique news content.

Two San Francisco stations, ABC-owned KGO and Univision’s KDTV, today said they will collaborate on stories of interest to both of their distinct audiences, saying the move represents the only alliance of its kind between English- and Spanish-language stations in the Bay Area.

The arrangement is an expansion of ABC and Univision’s ongoing efforts to collaborate. Today’s announcement is similar to an existing local relationship between ABC-owned WPVI and Univision’s WUVP in Philadelphia. Disney/ABC Television Network also joined with Univision to create Fusion, a joint venture digital network launched in October 2013.

KGO and KDTV will cross-promote newscasts and share unique news content.

“We are very happy to work on all our platforms with KDTV and Univision, the premiere Spanish-language television brand on stories and information impacting our distinct set of consumers,” said William Burton, president-GM of KGO. “This strategic alliance strengthens ABC7 News coverage and further enhances our commitment to serve all communities throughout the Bay Area. “

“Our alliance with ABC7 in the Bay Area is a local progression of our relationship with ABC,” said Raul Rodriguez, VP-GM of Univision’s San Francisco Radio/Television. “The addition of the Bay Area to the roster of existing relationships reaffirms our commitment to informing, educating, and empowering the Hispanic community in the region.”
