KTLM Expands Its Local News Coverage

NBCU-owned Telemundo affiliate KTLM Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville-McAllen, Texas (DMA  (86), today announced an expansion to its Noticias Telemundo 40 news by welcoming a new team of anchors and expanding its live news coverage on weekdays at 10 p.m. and on weekends at 4:30 and 10 p.m.  

To support the investment in live, local breaking news and weather, KTLM has hired weekday news co-anchor Hugo Magallan and weather anchor Elizabeth Robaina. Hector Zapata has been promoted to sports anchor. The new anchor team, whose first day on air is Sept. 2, will join news anchor Dalila Garza and Acceso Total entertainment reporter Mayra Galvan weekdays at 5 and 10 p.m. Ana Cecilia Mendez will anchor on Saturdays and Sundays at 4:30 and 10 p.m.

Magallan most recently worked as the morning news anchor for KNVO McAllen from 2008 to 2014. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Universidad Regiomontana in Monterrey, Mexico.

Robaina joins Telemundo 40 from WAPA San Juan, P.R., where she was a weather anchor. She also worked as a weather anchor at KLDO Laredo, Texas, from 2012 to 2013. A native of Cuba, Robaina received her bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism from the University of Texas-Pan American.

Zapata has worked at KTLM since 2012 as a news and sports reporter. He received his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Texas-Pan American.
