KSHB Getting New Sports Director

With news of the upcoming retirement of Jack Harry, the Scripps Kansas City NBC affiliate names Frank Boal as his successor.

Scripps-owned NBC affiliate KSHB Kansas City (DMA 31) announced Thursday that Sports Director Jack Harry will retire on June 30.  Harry has been covering sports in Kansas City for more than 40 years.

Frank Boal will succeed Harry. Frank has been with KSHB since 2010 after spending the previous 28 years at WDAF Kansas City.

In addition, KSHB’s Dee Jackson was named weekend sports anchor.  Jackson has been part of the 41 Action News sports team since 2013. Both Jackson and Boal begin their new roles on July 1.

Jack, who was named sports director at KSHB in 2002, has won numerous awards for broadcast journalism, having been inducted as a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Chapter’s Silver Circle in 2011.

“Jack has been a staple in this city for a long time. His knowledge and passion for Kansas City sports will be missed,” said Carrie Hofmann, KSHB news director.
