WNBC Adds Investigative Reporter Sarah Wallace

NBC-owned WNBC New York (DMA 1) today expanded its investigative unit with the hiring of journalist Sarah Wallace. Wallace, who worked at WABC New York until earlier this year, brings more than 30 years of experience in the New York Tri-State market to her new role with WNBC’s I-Team, which includes Chief Investigative Reporter Jonathan Dienst and Investigative Reporters Chris Glorioso, Melissa Russo and Pei-Sze Cheng.

Wallace, who will start as investigative reporter with the station in early September, comes to WNBC after more than 30 years at WABC. She has traveled extensively for her investigative work, visiting Colombia for an in-depth series on heroin to track the drug’s pipeline from the poppy fields of Colombia to the streets of Long Island. Earlier in her career, she went to Middle East and was the first local reporter to cover preparations for the Gulf War.

Wallace has won numerous awards for her journalism, including a George Foster Peabody Award, two Edward R. Murrow Awards and 15 Emmy Awards, as well as a number of community commendations, including one from the New York Police Department for helping negotiate a potentially explosive hostage crisis in Harlem.

Before joining WABC, Wallace worked at several television stations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento and Fresno, Calif., as a reporter/anchor.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and public policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
