Univision News Promotes Two Executives

María Martínez-Guzmán becomes vice president and executive producer, newsgathering, while Gabriela Tristán has been named vice president and executive producer, news production.

 

Univision News on Tuesday promoted María Martínez-Guzmán and Gabriela Tristán.

Martínez-Guzmán will now be VP and executive producer, newsgathering; while Tristán will be VP and executive producer, news production.

In their new positions, Martínez-Guzmán and Tristán will work collaboratively and report to Patsy Loris, senior vice president and senior news director.

Martínez-Guzmán will supervise and assign daily stories for all newscasts; plan and coordinate exclusive interviews, series and special news coverage; and manage correspondents and assignment editors.

Tristán will oversee daily production and broadcast of all newscasts; plan and organize special coverage of events and breaking news; and manage Univision News anchors, producers, and writers. She will also be the point person for other Univision departments with specific requests and news-related production needs. 

Martínez-Guzmán most recently was managing editor of network news and before that, national and international assignment editor, Univision News. She was part of the team responsible for launching Al Punto, Univision’s Sunday morning political and public affairs show, where she coordinated and produced high profile interviews with world presidents, U.S. political figures, writers, civic leaders and sports personalities. Additionally, she has also field-produced major national and international news events throughout her career.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Prior to joining Univision News in 2002, Martínez-Guzmán was news director at KNVO McAllen, Texas, where she managed the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, with a minor in broadcasting, from Florida International University.

Tristán joined Univision News as an intern in 1993 and has since held several production positions, beginning as producer of the news segment for Univision Network’s morning show Despierta América and subsequently for Network News. After moving up to general producer of Al Punto, she was promoted to executive producer in 2012. Her most recent title was executive producer, Univision Network News.

She is a graduate of Florida International University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism.
