Comet Diginet Slots ‘MST3K’ And ‘Godzilla’ Package

As expected, the sci-fi multicast network Comet has reached licensing agreements to air episodes of the original Mystery Science Theater 3000 series and a package of classic Japanese Godzilla movies spanning the years 1954 to 1975.

Comet — a co-venture of Sinclair Television Group and MGM — announced the acquisitions early today.

The Mystery Science Theater episodes will join the Comet lineup on Sept. 4. No date was given for the start of the Godzilla movies.

Comet also announced it will begin airing the original Outer Limits series on Sept. 7.

Retro TV had the MSTK3 package, along with Doctor Who as a last-gasp at getting affiliates. That other package goes anywhere, Retro TV is done; Comet just has stronger reach and backing than Retro has and the rest of that network’s schedule is leftovers and public domain.
