WJLA’s Bunyan To Receive Ed Walker Award

WJLA-TV Anchor Maureen Bunyan, anchor at Sinclair Broadcast Group’s ABC affiliate WJLA Washington (DMA 7), has been named the first recipient of the Ed Walker Lifetime Achievement in Broadcasting award from the National Capital Radio & Television Museum (NCRTV). 

The award will be presented at NCRTV’s annual fall fundraiser, Turn Your Television On, Saturday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 pm, at the Comfort Inn Ballroom in Bowie, Md.  TV personality Arch Campbell will be Master of Ceremonies.

“We are proud of Maureen for this esteemed recognition,” said ABC7 Director of News Mitch Jacob. “She’s been a remarkable part of our news family and has had an amazing career in broadcasting. It’s gratifying that her many contributions to the field will be acknowledged with such a prestigious honor.”

Named for the late Ed Walker, who received the award in 2015, the Lifetime Achievement in Broadcasting award recognizes the impact radio and television broadcasters have had on local citizens. 

Upon learning of her selection, Bunyan wrote: “I humbly accept the recognition from the Museum of this award named in honor of the beloved broadcast icon Ed Walker.”

Maureen Bunyan is a founder of the International Women’s Media Foundation which serves women in the media in 100 countries. She is also a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) where she was inducted into the NABJ Hall of Fame in January of 2014.
