Viewers Boldly Tune-In To MeTV ‘Star Trek’ Special

MeTV, Weigel Broadcasting’s classic television multicast network, aired a special Star Trek 50thanniversary programming event this past Saturday night, including a special episode of Svengoolie that featured the rarely seen original Star Trek pilot “The Cage.”

Viewership of this special between 10 p.m. and midnight peaked at more than one million people. The entire two-hour block averaged 942,000 people 2+, which were the highest ratings ever for Svengoolie on MeTV. The first broadcast episode of Star Trek, “The Man Trap,” which aired from 9 to 10 p.m., averaged 779,000 persons 2+, an increase of 28% over the time period last year, according to the network.

“These ‘out of this world’ numbers were part of an overall stellar Saturday that saw MeTV average of 512,000 persons 2+ for the entire broadcast day,” said Neal Sabin, vice chairman of Weigel Broadcasting.

Svengoolie is hosted by Rich Koz and has been on air in the Chicago market since 1979 and on MeTV Network since 2011.

Svengoolie is part of the MeTV Super Sci-Fi Saturday Night programming block. It features The Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman, Star Trek, Svengoolie and Batman starting at 7 p.m.
