The Baltimore State’s Attorney filed the complaint against the Sinclair Fox affiliate, alleging a pattern of coverage of the state’s attorney’s office that is “blatantly slanted, dishonest, misleading, racist, and extremely dangerous.” It also claims the station “appears to be an intentional crusade” against Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby (above), “which given today’s politically charged and divisive environment, is extremely dangerous.” Sinclair defended WBFF’s reporting in a statement.

Tegna announced a big bet at this week’s Interactive Advertising Bureau NewFronts presentation: expanding its Verify fact-checking franchise to reach across the country. With this week’s announcement, Tegna joins other station groups expanding beyond their owned-and-operated markets to launch national brands, like NBC’s LX and ABC’s Localish. Verify, which grew out of an employee off-site brainstorming session six years ago, combines research and transparent sourcing to respond to timely questions in the news with a simple answer: true or false. The segments are produced by a central team as well as individual stations.

RTDNA today announced the regional winners of the 2021 Edward R. Murrow Awards. More than 750 awards recognize over 350 local radio and television stations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four countries. This year, the awards added Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as a new category.

“We want viewers to see our people how we get to see them every day behind the scenes — down-to-earth and personable,” says Heath Benfield, promotion manager for WFXT, Cox’s Fox affiliate in Boston.

The group’s morning show will introduce a late news broadcast at 10 p.m.-midnight ET beginning Sept. 27.

She succeeds Robert Costa at a program best known as the longtime home of the anchor Gwen Ifill.
