NPR Video Producer Kara Frame got involved with live digital reporting when Facebook first launched its live video capabilities in 2016. Just a couple of years later,  Facebook reported that one in five videos were shot and shared live by the platform’s millions of daily users. Frame talks about lessons learned for NPR’s launch of live digital video including the tools her and the video team used to create high-quality segments and news stories with DSLR cameras.

Online mugshot galleries, where news organizations post rows of people who were arrested, once seemed like an easy moneymaker for struggling newsrooms: Each reader click to the next image translated to more page views and an opportunity for more advertising dollars. But faced with questions about the lasting impact of putting these photos on the internet, where they live forever, media outlets are increasingly doing away with the galleries of people on the worst days of their lives.

Political producer Jenna Gibson has been named managing editorial producer at CBS News. In her newly expanded role, Gibson will continue to manage major political and international guest bookings while taking on additional editorial responsibilities, as well as coordinate political contributors across the network.

Vice is to relaunch its nightly news show, Vice News Tonight, in a new hour-long live format on March 4 on Vice TV. Vice has named TV news veteran Nikki Egan as executive producer of the newscast, which will air live, Monday through Thursday. Prior to Vice, Egan was at MSNBC for 17 years.

New jobs posted to TVNewsCheck’s MediaJob Center include openings for an investigative producer, a news director, a chief meteorologist and a technical media producer.

The Trust Project, whose broadcast partners include Hearst and Tegna, aims to win and retain audience’s confidence in news organizations by making clear their best practices, funding models and reporting methods, among other “indicators.” Founder and CEO Sally Lehrman explains how it works with news organizations and platforms like Facebook and Google to raise media literacy and boost transparency.

“We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist,” CBS News President Susan Zirinsky told The Associated Press. “We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible.”

Last fall, NBCUniversal’s TV station division announced the launch of LX as a “digital news brand and soon-to-launch over-the-air and streaming network.” Since then, LX’s team, including “visual storytellers” embedded at NBC stations in select markets are creating content that you won’t find beyond YouTube, LX.com and social media.

NBC News and MSNBC plan to be among the first and last news outlets focused on the New Hampshire primary, starting live coverage this evening on Chris Matthews’ Hardball and Chris Hayes’ All In and then continuing through Wednesday morning.

This is still KGW.” That’s Portland, Ore., anchor Dan Haggerty, 43 seconds into the very first episode of a brand-new 6 p.m. newscast, The Story, reassuring viewers who are tuning into to find him all alone on an unfamiliar set. “We have all the stuff you know and love, all the important news that you need, all the fun things you like to share online,” he continues. “We just hope that you might find this a little more authentic, a little more engaging, hopefully very different.”

After President Donald Trump spoke live for more than an hour Thursday about his impeachment acquittal, one television network anchor apologized to viewers for a presidential obscenity, while another said it was like watching someone on a therapist’s couch. Yet there’s no indication that anyone in the control rooms at ABC, CBS and NBC considered pulling the plug on him.

The agreement will let Tegna’s stations source Reddit’s hyperlocal content for their news broadcasts and digital properties.

The job of a broadcast meteorologist has changed significantly over the years. During the early days of television, it wasn’t unusual for the weather presenter to wear a costume, play a musical instrument, or work with a puppet. Today the weather is usually delivered by a professional meteorologist using sophisticated computer graphics, street-level Doppler radar maps, and hour-by-hour forecasts.

Fox News Channel appeared to benefit from the impeachment more than its rivals. Its viewership during daytime hours for the months of November, December and January was up 19% compared with the same three months a year earlier, Nielsen said. Rivals CNN and MSNBC saw a decrease in viewers, perhaps due to a lack of suspense in the eventual outcome.
