‘America’s Got Talent’ Tops Last Week’s Nielsens
America’s Got Talent, which is well-established as TV’s favorite live show of the summer, reached seven million viewers last week with auditions for its 16th season on NBC. The network also won the week with an average of 3.5 million viewers in primetime. CBS had 3 million, ABC had 2.7 million, Fox had 1.7 million, Univision had 1.2 million, Ion Television had 1.02 million and Telemundo had 990,000. ESPN won a tight race for cable supremacy, averaging 2.19 million viewers in primetime. TNT had 2.18 million, Fox News Channel had 2.15 million, MSNBC had 1.32 million and HGTV had 1.13 million.
The Peabody Awards on Tuesday expanded its award categories to recognize storytelling achievements across interactive, immersive and new media categories. An additional board of 10 newly appointed jurors, composed of industry experts, will lead Peabody in expanding the organization’s long-established pedigree to recognize works in digital and immersive formats.
ABC’s The Celebrity Dating Game in Week 3 drew 2 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating, down a tenth in the demo week-to-week. Opening ABC’s night, The Bachelorette (3.1M/0.7) slipped but still led Monday in the demo. CBS’s The Neighborhood rerun delivered the night’s largest audience, with 3.5 million viewers.
‘Feud’ Again Tops Syndication And Games
Despite slipping 3%, it tops the chart with a 5.7 household rating in the session ending June 20. In a listless week, Live with Kelly and Ryan and Dr. Phil posted ratings gains, climbing 6% and 7%, respectively.
The NIckWatch, a wearable consumer product featuring Nickelodeon characters, was introduced by ViacomCBS Networks International Tuesday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Nickwatch will connect kids and parents via voice and text and feature photo filters, sound effects, games and stickers based on NIckelodeon shows and characters. Content will be updated on an ongoing basis.
The CMT Music Awards, which have been running in various forms since the 1960s, are to premiere live on CBS in 2022. In the latest example of corporate synergy, the broadcast network will become the home of the event, which has awarded artists such as Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift in recent years. The move gives CBS another live awards ceremony; despite falling numbers across awards events, they are generally a boon for live ratings.
NBC’s coverage of the latest U.S. Olympics trials averaged a 1.0 rating on Sunday night — peaking with a 1.3 in the 9 o’clock hour, and leading all Sunday fare in the demo. Over on CBS, 60 Minutes delivered the night’s biggest audience, with 6.4 million viewers.

The 48th Daytime Emmy Awards live broadcast slipped a bit from last year’s viewership, and was soundly beaten in the Friday demo ratings by wrestling, the U.S. Olympic trials, two newsmagazines and even reality TV. Early returns show the CBS Daytime Emmys at an 0.2 in the night’s demo wars, down slightly from last year’s 0.3, when the awards show returned to primetime for the first time since 2011.
