Although most of the canceled TV show headlines of late have been focused on the big streamers, attention will soon shift to the beleaguered Big 5 broadcasters as the May upfronts draw closer. Many in-limbo shows on the 2023 Renewal Scorecard are a lock to return, but there are a handful of high-profile series on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW that remain very much on the bubble.
Ahead of its recently announced plan to present its working schedule in a series of digital presentations as part of its May 18-19 ViacomCBS Upfront @ Home, the network has renewed 15 scripted series, including all three NCIS dramas and both of Dick Wolf’s FBI shows.
Live is good through 2019-20 on the ABC Owned Television Stations Group, while Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is extended through 2016-17 on the majority of ABC Owned Stations.
After lengthy negotiations, Fox’s musical dramedy Glee has been picked up for next season. And the season after that. The network has given a two-year renewal to the series for seasons 5 and 6.
ABC is on the verge of issuing formal early renewals to a batch of scripted series, including freshman hits Once Upon a Time and Revenge and established players Modern Family, Castle and Grey’s Anatomy.
The No. 1 network has picked up nine dramas, two comedies, two unscripted series and a pair of newsmagazines, joining previous renewals The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Survivor. The fate of freshman dramas Unforgettable and A Gifted Man, as well as its two CSI spinoffs remain uncertain.
