Amazon has had early talks with Disney about working on the streaming version of ESPN it is developing, said people familiar with the matter. The tech giant could offer the service through one of its streaming offerings, helping to expand its distribution, while possibly also taking a minority stake in ESPN. Netflix Added 2.6M U.S. Subscribers In July

Netflix continued to add subscribers in the U.S. at a high rate in July after initiating a crackdown on password sharing in May, according to new data from research firm Antenna. The streaming giant had 2.6 million gross subscriber additions in July, the latest figures show. The company also saw the highest percentage of new sign-ups going to its advertising tier since the $7-a-month offering hit the market last November. About 23% of new subscribers opted for the ad tier, a gain of four percentage points over June levels.

NAD Decides Youtube TV Should Stop ‘$600 Less Than Cable’ Ad Claims

The National Advertising Division of BBB National Programs has recommended Google’s YouTube TV stop certain ad claims that tout its live TV streaming service as significantly cheaper than cable. Specifically, NAD decided YouTube TV should discontinue the comparative pricing claim in two commercials that say its service is “$600 less than cable” – following a challenge by cable operator Charter Communications. Without any promotional pricing or extras, YouTube TV costs $72.99 per month for a base plan that includes more than 100 channels. Google is appealing.

Pay-TV and cable providers continued to bleed subscribers during the second quarter of 2023 as cord-cutting among consumers continued to accelerate. Fubo Cuts Second Quarter Loss As ARPU Increases

Fubo reduced its second quarter loss as revenue per subscriber increased. Fubo’s second quarter loss shrunk to $49.9 million, or 17 cents a share, from $116.1 million, or 63 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 41% to $312.7 million. Fubo said it had 1.167 million North American subscribers, up 23% from a year ago, but down from 1.285 million at the end of the first quarter. Average revenue per subscriber rose 13% to $81.62, cutting its domestic loss to $41 million.
