Gray Selling WSWG Albany, Ga., To Marquee

The CBS affiliate is being bought by Marquee Broadcasting, which already owns independent WSST in the market. The sale is the first of nine spin-offs of stations in duopoly markets that Gray pledged to make to clear the way at the FCC for its $3.6 billion aquisition of Raycom.

Gray Television announced today that it is selling WSWG, the CBS affiliate in Albany, Ga. (DMA 154), to Marquee Broadcasting. The price was not disclosed.

Patricia Lane, president and co-owner of Marquee, said: “We are excited to add WSWG to the Marquee family and look forward to serving the local communities of south central and southwestern Georgia. We thank Gray for this opportunity.”

Marquee owns television stations in Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky and Maryland. It also has a pending acquisition for WSST, an independent television station in the Albany market that is expected to close on Sept. 1. By combining WSWG with WSST, Marquee said it plans to improve and expand both stations’ service to southwestern Georgia communities.

The WSWG transaction will close concurrently with the closing of Gray’s $3.6 billion acquisition of Raycom Media. WSWG is among nine that Gray said it would spin off from the Raycom merger to comply with the FCC’s local ownership rules.
