Luis Fernández Named Chairman Of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises

Beau Ferrari to transition to senior adviser at NBCUniversal

Luis Fernández, a veteran executive in news, sports and entertainment media, today was appointed chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

Fernández returns to Telemundo following a distinguished career in Spanish-language media as a broadcast executive and award-winning journalist who has overseen the development of highly successful programming across broadcast, digital and other platforms. He succeeds Beau Ferrari, who has served as chairman the past three years and will transition to be senior adviser to the chairman of the News Group and NBCUniversal for strategic growth opportunities.

Fernández, who will report to Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, previously was president of Noticias Telemundo, the news division of Telemundo. He has spent decades as a leader in journalism, entertainment, sports and media.

He has served as chief executive officer of Radio Television Española (RTVE), Spain’s state-owned public radio and television corporation, where he supervised television, radio and digital divisions; president of Univision Entertainment and Univision Studios, where he developed some of the highest-rated broadcast and social media programs during a historic ratings period for the company; and International CEO of Real Madrid based in Beijing, playing a key role in expanding the soccer organization’s international reach. He also held leadership positions at Canal +, Telecinco, Cadena SER, Radio EL PAÍS and Cadena COPE.

“Throughout his extraordinary career, Luis has time and again shown visionary leadership, building and growing the most successful Spanish language media organizations in the United States and overseas,” Conde said. “At this moment in Telemundo’s storied history, we are so fortunate to have someone of Luis’s experience and stature to rejoin our team and excited about what the future holds for Telemundo and its audiences under his leadership.”

Fernández said he was honored to be returning to Telemundo at such an exciting time for the company and its audiences. “As our communities are increasingly playing a greater role in American culture, politics, sports and commerce, this is our time to meet the moment,” he said.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Conde said: “Under Beau’s successful leadership, Telemundo has remained a highly influential voice to Spanish-speaking audiences throughout the nation,” Conde said. “He has led Telemundo during a transformative time. He and the team delivered innovative content across all platforms and record financial results. I look forward to continuing to work closely with him in his new role.”

Most recently, Ferrari was chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. His leadership of the multiplatform portfolio led to record growth and financial results over the course of his tenure. With oversight of a content portfolio including assets in Entertainment, Sports, News, Cable, and Global Studios across Telemundo’s flagship broadcast, digital and streaming platforms, Ferrari led the expansion and distribution of the leading producer of Spanish-language scripted content in the United States, now in over 150 countries. As the exclusive Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup, he led the company to deliver record audiences across platforms.
