Jamie Apody Announces She Is Leaving WPVI Sports

ABC owned WPVI Philadelphia weekend sports anchor Jamie Apody says she will leave her on-air role at 6abc Action News.

She said: “I am thankful to so many sports fans in the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys who have welcomed me into their homes every evening for the past 18 years. Additionally, I am so grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love, support, and concern shown to me over the past five months while I made a decision about my future. It has been the greatest pleasure to cover some of the best sports teams in the world and share my reporting and storytelling with our fans. Please be assured that all is well with me and my family. I am excited about the next chapter in my career, and I look forward to working on new ways to engage with my audience on topics that energize and celebrate our teams.”

Apody has been an integral part of the Philadelphia sports community since joining the station in 2006. Over her career, she has covered some of the city’s biggest moments in sports including the Phillies 2008 World Series, Eagles 2017 Superbowl, the Flyers 2009 season appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the 2016 and 2018 Villanova Wildcat NCAA tournament championships, among others.

Thomas Davis, WPVI VP of news, said: “On behalf of the entire 6abc family, I want to express my deep appreciation for Jamie and celebrate her. No one knows better the importance of a great team than Jamie, and she has been an inspiration to so many throughout the Delaware Valley. I am thrilled to see her shift into new opportunities and continue to impact Philadelphia.”

Before joining WPVI, Apody worked as the sports director at KDBC El Paso, Texas. There she was named the 2005 Sportscaster of the Year by El Paso Inc. She began her career as a sports producer at KNBC Los Angeles where she covered the NBA and the Lakers, including the team’s memorable three straight NBA Championships. Apody also covered the Angels’ World Series title, and the Ducks’ run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

She received a degree in communications from UCLA in Los Angeles.
