Jonathan Martin Joins WXIA Atlanta As 4 p.m. Anchor

Tegna’s NBC affiliate WXIA Atlanta has hired Atlanta native Jonathan Martin as a news anchor. He joins the station on July 31 and will co-anchor 11Alive News at 4 p.m. alongside Faith Jessie when the show debuts in September.

Martin joins from KRIV Houston where he spent seven years as an evening news anchor. During Hurricane Harvey, he was live on the air for more than 20 hours keeping viewers informed as the storm ravaged the Texas coast. He also anchored on-location for notable events in Houston as Super Bowl 51, The World Series, and the funeral for former President George H.W Bush.

During his time in Houston, Martin created several community initiatives including Beyond the Game, a high school program to empower young men in underserved communities, and SWEAT TX, a fitness initiative with the city of Houston that focused on addressing the city’s obesity epidemic. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner declared June 8, 2023 as “Jonathan Martin Day,” in recognition of his consistent work in the community.

“Jonathan joins the growing list of journalists who have decided to return home to Atlanta,” said John Deushane, WXIA president-GM. “His passion for community engagement and our city will be immediately recognized in everything he does.”

In addition to being a 4-time Emmy nominee, Martin has received several Associated Press honors for anchoring and reporting. He previously worked as a correspondent for Al Jazeera America.

A graduate of Auburn University, he began his TV career as a reporter at WRDW Augusta, Ga.
