KXTV Sacramento Names Monika Diaz Director Of Content

She moves from a corporate role at Tegna to oversee journalism at its ABC affiliate in the state capital.

Tegna-owned ABC affiliate KXTV Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday appointed Monika Diaz director of content, effective immediately. Diaz will oversee the day-to-day operations of the news department as well as “be a leader in developing the strategic vision for the station’s overall growth,” KXTV said.

Diaz has more than 26 years of journalism experience across multiple roles within newsrooms. Most recently, she was director of content at Tegna, supporting content initiatives, innovation and recruiting for 15 stations across the country. In that multi-faceted role, she helped implement Tegna’s Inclusive Journalism program, working with stations on content audits and action planning.

She also supported WXIA’s Atticus investigative reporting team. In 2021, Diaz provided support to KARE Minneapolis during the Derek Chauvin trial as an executive producer. She also co-produced Power to Change: The Legacy of George Floyd.

Diaz previously worked as news director at KTXL Sacramento. Earlier in her career, she worked as a reporter at WFAA Dallas and KXTV, KSTS San Francisco and WSVN Miami.

Diaz is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in communications/journalism.
