Rodney Dunigan Named WSYX-WTTE Assistant News Director

Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns WSYX (ABC) and operates Cunningham’s WTTE (Fox) Columbus, Ohio, has promoted Rodney Dunigan, news anchor, investigative reporter, and weekend managing editor, to assistant news director, transitioning from on-air to helping mentor ABC 6 News anchors, reporters, and producers behind the scenes.

“I’m excited to take on this vital role as assistant news director,” Dunigan said, who has been with the stations since 2017.  “I am looking forward to working closely with each and every one of our talented staff members as we map out a bright future for our newsroom”.

Over the past five years, Dunigan has tackled tough issues as part of the ABC 6 News team: Working to find solutions to community and police relations, stopping youth violence, and advocating second chances and reentry for former inmates. In addition, he helped quarterback the best Ohio State Football pregame tradition in Central Ohio, The Football Fever, an hour-long breakdown before every Ohio State Buckeye football game throughout the season.

When not in front of the camera, Dunigan has actively supported important community events like the UNCF Columbus Mayor’s Luncheon, the UNCF Walk for Education, and has helped lead discussions during important ABC 6 News Town Hall events.

In his new role as assistant news director, Dunigan is helping to manage day-to-day operations inside the ABC 6 and Fox 28 Newsroom, working to help produce stories with a distinctive focus on accountability, empathy and hope, that viewers in Central Ohio want to watch.

“Rodney’s can-do attitude has been a tremendous asset to our team since he joined ABC 6 News in 2017,” said Nicole Hogensen, news director, WSYX-WTTE. “Rodney and I share a similar philosophy on content strategy, developing our newsroom and being an active leader in our community.”
