Scripps News Adds Veteran Journalist Carolyn Bruck

Carolyn Bruck

Scripps News has hired veteran journalist Carolyn Bruck to join a team of anchors, delivering live news programming weekdays from 6 a.m. through 10 p.m. ET. Bruck’s first day at Scripps News is Oct. 30.

“Scripps News is expanding its broadcasting talent, and this hire is a reflection of that,” said Kate O’Brian, president of Scripps News. “Carolyn’s experience covering a wide range of topics will make her a perfect addition to the Scripps News anchor team.”

“I am very much looking forward to joining a team dedicated to reporting the news — in-depth and in the most engaging way possible,” Bruck said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to provide viewers with information and insight in the context of the most interesting events and stories, as they happen.”

Bruck joins Scripps News from WCNC Charlotte, N.C., where she spent the last eight years as an anchor. While there, she covered stories of local, national and international importance, as well as providing in-depth coverage of popular culture, sports and politics.

Prior to that job, she was the weekday morning anchor for both the Fox and ABC affiliates in Columbus, Ohio. She has also worked as a nightly news anchor for KSEE Fresno, Calif.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Bruck earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of California, Riverside, and completed additional broadcast journalism coursework at University of California, Los Angeles.

I hope they don’t put her on Morning Rush it’s their best show and judging on her social media she looks like she’d bring the show down. She could host the 11am which is fine or dayside or the 8Pm-10PM show. But the morning show shouldn’t be touched as the anchors have a good vibe. If she was at 8Pm on they could recreate the morning vibe at night with 3 anchors.

When Newsy was renamed to scripps news and the live hours were rolled out it was good news but as a long time viewer the name change itself is hurting it’s growth. Non news people who think news is fake currently are looking for new channels and so Newsy would be sampled by them but now that it’s scripps news that’s doa. Once I was talking to someone about how they should watch it and they kept asking me “you mean it’s scripted?” thinking scripps news is saying yea we’re a fake news brand. People are that way now where things have to be dumbed down to the extreme. I think if they reverted back to newsy with the same schedule it would work for them.
