University Of Texas Presents First Morley Safer Award

The Briscoe Center at the University of Texas in Austin awarded journalist Hannah Dreier with the first Morley Safer Award for Outstanding Reporting during a special luncheon event. Dreier was named the winner for her work on “Trapped in Gangland” series on the Central American gang MS-13 in Long Island that was jointly published by New York magazine, Newsday and The New York Times.

Dreier (center) was joined at the celebration by (l-r) Bob Schieffer (CBS News and award judge), Sarah Safer, Jane Safer and Don Carleton, executive director of the Briscoe Center, University of Texas, Austin.

Among the media personalities attending were Bob Schieffer, Steve Kroft, Tom Brokow, Susan Zirinsky, Terry McDonnell, Bill Owens, Peter Maass, Jane Safer, and Don Carleton.
