WIVB-WNLO Buffalo Names Josh Roy News Director

Nexstar moves him up to oversee journalism at the CBS-CW duopoly in upstate New York.

Nexstar’s Buffalo, N.Y. duopoly of WIVB (CBS) and WNLO (CW) has promoted Josh Roy to news director.

He is a native of Tonawanda, N.Y., and a 20-year veteran of journalism at WIVB, where he started as a photojournalist, covering many important news stories including Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S., presidential visits, Flight 3407 and The October Surprise Storm, to name a few.

He rose through promotions to news operations manager, assistant news director and acting news director. His work has earned him many accolades including Emmy Awards, AP Awards and Murrow Awards.

Roy will report to VP-GM Joe Abouzeid, who said: “Josh is a seasoned journalist with decades of experience at News 4. He is a terrific leader who will help the News 4 team provide even more great news coverage to the viewers of Western New York.”

Commenting on his promotion, Roy said: “I’m honored to lead the newsroom that I’ve been part of for the last 20 years. We have some of the best journalists in the business, and I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and look forward to what we’ll accomplish in the future.”
