After almost exactly 10 years, the Market Share column I’ve been writing is ceasing publication on TVNewsCheck, as TVNewsCheck itself takes a pause in publication.
After almost exactly 10 years, the Market Share column I’ve been writing is ceasing publication on TVNewsCheck, as TVNewsCheck itself takes a pause in publication.
Market Share began in March, 2014. Since then, there have been 3,267 articles. For a time, you may go back and see all the articles from the most recent, today’s column about KHOU’s coverage of a post office failure, back through time by CLICKING HERE.
I began writing Market Share to celebrate the success, innovation and creativity of local TV news and its marketing, branding and advertising.
I felt there was good coverage about the local television broadcasting business from the 30,000-foot level—mergers and acquisitions, stock prices, technology advances, etc., but almost nothing about what was going on the ground in local TV news, programming, and marketing.
Since I spent my career working in marketing local TV news at stations around the country and at the corporate level, and having started at an ad agency that specialized in media marketing, I felt I was qualified.
I wanted to highlight the accomplishments in local TV news and talk to the people who were making them.
I have a passion for the local TV news business. I believe in its mission. I honor the people who work in it. I hope to continue to tell its story.
I want to thank all of the people who took the time to talk to me and trusted me enough to let me tell their stories. And I thank the folks at TVNewsCheck for allowing me to share those stories.
What’s next? Hopefully, there is a business or organization that sees value in what I’ve been doing and wants me to continue to do that.
Metrics for Market Share indicate there were 250,000 views on average yearly.
In the meantime, I’m still here and reachable at 817-578-6324. My personal email is [email protected] and a new one, [email protected]. I’m told my [email protected] email will go away on Feb 23.
I’m always available to talk and offer marketing advice, brainstorm ideas or just talk turkey.
