KCRA Assistant News Director Jim Stimson Honored With Natas Governors’ Citation

Jim Stimson, assistant news director of Hearst-owned NBC affiliate KCRA Sacramento, Calif., has been chosen to receive a Governors’ Citation from the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The award is given in recognition of outstanding and unique achievements or accomplishments by individuals, organizations, or companies which do not fall within the Chapter’s regular area awards. The Emmy Awards ceremony will be held virtually this year on Saturday, June 5, at 7 p.m.

“Jim’s commitment to integrity-first journalism is foundational to the success of KCRA 3 News and the culture of our Newsroom,” said KCRA President-GM Ariel Roblin.

“Jim believes the best investment you can make is in people and he has championed the careers of countless journalists throughout his decades of service,” said KCRA News Director Derek Schnell. “For all of us who work with Jim, his commitment and dedication to KCRA 3 and covering stories that make an impact in our community are remarkable.”

Stimson started at KCRA as an intern in 1974 before becoming an employee in 1975, working his way up through a variety of roles as a radio and television producer, then executive producer, then assistant news director. He has been integral in the station’s coverage of presidential visits, gubernatorial debates, natural disasters, Super Bowls and the Olympic Games.

“I will simply say that I have had the good fortune to work with some very talented people all of these years,” Stimson said. “And, I have benefited greatly from station owners who have been, and who continue to be, committed to the highest standards of television, journalism and service to the communities we cover. Without that I would not be where I am today.”
