50th ‘Miss Black America Pageant’ Clears 80%

Sewee Entertainment has cleared the 50th Miss Black America Pageant in over 80% of the U.S., including primetime slots in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit. Top stations for the 90-minute event include WPIX, KTLA, WGN, WPHL, WDCW, WDAF, KRIV-KTXH and WATL.

“I met the principals of the Miss Black America Pageant on the last day of NATPE last year,” said Sewee CEO Tim Voit. “I thought they had an untapped franchise, one that had not been in syndication since the late ’90s. I’m glad to facilitate the return to broadcast TV this February”.

The Miss Black America Pageant was started 50 years ago as a protest event in Atlantic City because the Miss America Pageant would not allow black contestants. It has encouraged and promoted young black women since its inception. Oprah Winfrey is a former contestant.
