Bill Carroll: An Appreciation

Bill Carroll

After more than 40 years in broadcast television, including over 30 years at Katz Media Group, Bill Carroll became known as an icon and a legend in the broadcasting business.

Bill passed away on Wednesday, April 27, at his home in Florida. He was 70.

Many of us were influenced by Bill and his enormous love for programming and the stations he was responsible for. Bill was well respected for his programming expertise within the broadcasting community.

A true gentleman, he never had a bad word to say about anyone. He had a natural love for the TV business; it was evident in his intuitive programming instinct and business acumen. Bill left a positive indelible mark on stations across the country and all of us who worked and competed with him.

Bill began his career at WHEC-TV in Rochester, N.Y., where he was the assistant VP of programming for 14 years. He then spent over 30 years as the SVP of programming for the Katz Media Group.
