‘Family Feud’ No. 1 In Syndication
Shrugging off a bevy of large-market preemptions that stymied much of daytime, popular sophomore Kelly Clarkson was the only talk show in the plus column for the session ending Oct. 18, surging 13% from the week before to a 0.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.
Clarkson rose 25% in the key women 25-54 demo despite being one of several strips blown out in some major markets on four days during the frame for coverage of the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings for Supreme Court justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
Dr. Phil was immune of most of the scheduled disruptions and led the talkers for the 199th time in 215 weeks with a steady 1.9.
Live with Kelly and Ryan ran into numerous preemptions and gave back 16% from its season high to a second-place 1.6.
Ellen DeGeneres remained at a 1.1 in its fourth week of the new season, which was 42% below last year at this time.
Judge Judy continued to score blockbuster numbers, holding its ground at a 5.4 and finishing far in front of all daytime programs. Judy creation Hot Bench hung tough at a 1.6, tying Kelly and Ryan as the third highest rated show in daytime.
BRAND CONNECTIONS
In prime access time periods, Family Feud added 4% to a 5.5 to lead the game shows and all of syndication.
Jeopardy recovered 9% to a 5.0, and Wheel of Fortune accelerated 7% to a 4.8.
Magazines found the going rough due to football and baseball playoff preemptions. Extra was one of the three shows in the top six that refused to decline, holding firm 0.7 and tying TMZ, which was off 13%, for the first time this season.
Inside Edition stayed at a 2.2, Entertainment Tonight dipped 5% to a 2.0 as Access Hollywood held at a 1.0 and grew 25% among women 25-54.
Meanwhile Daily Mail TV declined 14% to a 0.6.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:
- Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.7, -22% from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.7, unchanged)
- Kelly Clarkson (0.5, +25%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, unchanged) and Maury (0.5, unchanged)
- Steve Wilkos (0.4, unchanged), tied with Wendy Williams (0.4, unchanged)

And the hate against Ellen continues. Why don’t you point out she alllll shows are down from last year. Again, she’s doing fine. And she’s had tons of preemptions but you don’t seem to want to point that out. She’s in the same number three position that she’s always been in. It’s becoming sad to see you post every week that she’s down from last year. What show isn’t. She’s still doing better than the other shows that you’re so desperate to beat her but they can’t.
