WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Live’ Tops The Talkers In Rough Week For Daytime Entries

Major League Baseball playoffs and Jan. 6 Committee hearings take their toll with preemptions in the session ending Oct. 16.

The week ending Oct. 16 was a nonstarter for daytime syndication thanks to the double whammy of Major League Baseball playoffs on four of the days and extensive Jan. 6 House Committee hearings. The two big events blew out shows with preemptions in some cases or proved to be crushing competition in others.

For example, there was only one syndicated strip in positive territory, namely Live with Kelly and Ryan, which continued to bask in a banner year. Live torched the talkers with a 7% surge to a 1.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and matched its season high. In addition to its usual A-list celebrity guests, the show, which has been No.1 (or tied for No. 1) in talk since late May, featured “Commonsense Finance Week” a well-received series dedicated to money-saving tips and tricks.

Dr. Phil, Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore and Tamron Hall were next in line among the veterans, with Barrymore boasting the biggest increase over last year in all of first-run syndication. The show gained an additional 461,000 daily viewers while swelling 60% from the same week in 2021 in its new half-hour format.

In rookie talk show action, Sherri and Jennifer Hudson did well to remain consistent at a 0.7 and 0.6, respectively, despite the preemptions.

Meanwhile, Karamo not only kept up its 0.3 in households, but actually doubled its demo among women 25-54.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:
