Syndies Take A Hit from Soccer And Supreme Court

Ratings for most shows in daytime were penalized by preemptions in the session ending April 10 as many hours of UEFA Champions League soccer and extensive coverage of Supreme Court Justice nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s final Senate confirmation vote prevented anything in syndication’s top tier from advancing.

Live with Kelly and Ryan continued to lead the talk shows for the fifth week in a row, even though it came back to earth after its big Oscars week, easing 11% to a 1.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

Dr. Phil lost its primary run in four of the top five markets on multiple days and declined 12% to a second-place 1.5.

Meanwhile, boasting the best annual performance in first run was Kelly Clarkson, which held its ground at a 0.9 and was the only talker in the Big 10 to beat its year-ago rating with a 13% rise. Riding high, Kelly is in line for numerous time period upgrades next season.

Ellen DeGeneres, Tamron Hall and Maury broke even, while Rachel Ray retreated 13% and Wendy Williams weakened 25% with an all-repeat week. Also losing 25% was the recently canceled Nick Cannon.

Elsewhere, Extra was the only magazine to preserve its season high even without benefit of ratings adrenalin from the previous week’s Academy Awards coverage.

In game show action, Jeopardy held on to first place, although it pulled back 2% to a 5.5. Family Feud followed with a steady 5.3.
