Broadband Firm Buys 52 LPTVs For $46.5M

Landover Wireless of New York is picking up the stations from Mako Communications of Corpus Christi, Texas.

A wireless broadband company is buying 45 low-power TV stations and construction permits for seven others from Mako Communications LCC and related companies for $46.5 million, according to an FCC filing seeking approval of the deal.

The buyer, New York-based Landover Wireless, is developing a national 4G mobile broadband network, according to its website.

The site lists Laurence S. Zimmerman as CEO, Sam Wauchope as CFO and Leonard Sotomayer and EVP of strategic planning. Zimmerman signed the FCC application.

The communications attorney representing Landover declined to comment. Executives of Landover could not be reached for comment.

Mako Communications LLC is based in Corpus Christi, Texas, and owned by the Mintz family. “Since 2000, we have been in the business of acquiring, building, and maintaining Class A and low power television stations across the United States, including Puerto Rico,” its website says. Amanda Mintz signed the FCC application as a member of Mako.

Bob Heymann, in the Chicago office of the Media Services Group, represented Mako in the transaction.

This is interesting since LPTV stations have not rights or protection under the Presidents broad band initiative.
