Broadcast Design International’s Mark Karlen Dies

Mark Karlen, senior design representative of Broadcast Design International, died June 29 of brain cancer. He was 54.

Karlen had more than 20 years’ experience in the broadcast industry. He worked for WFTS Tampa, Fla., as creative services director for numerous years before joining the team at Broadcast Design International.

He won many national and regional awards for his work.

As a senior design representative for BDI he became a world traveler. He loved telling about his many encounters and experiences and the beautiful people he met around the globe. He shared these experiences with both his surviving children, Sean A. Karlen and Janelle K. Hutchinson, taking each of them separately and together to different parts of the world.

Karlen was a member of BDA, RTNDA and an executive committee member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
