Byron Grandy Tapped As GM of WNCN

The broadcasting Executive with more than 30 years of experience Joins Nexstar from KMGH Denver to lead Nexstar’s CBS affiliate in Raleigh, N.C.

 

Nexstar-owned WNCN Raleigh, N.C. (DMA 24), on Monday appointed Byron Grandy vice president and general manager of the CBS affiliate and its associated digital services.

He assumes his new responsibilities immediately and report to Doug Davis, Nexstar SVP and regional manager. Grandy succeeds Doug Hamilton.

WNCN was part of Nexstar’s $4.6 billion acquisition of Media General that closed on Jan. 17

Grandy has more than three decades of combined executive and professional experience across station management, local news programming and content, new business development, digital media and strategic planning across multiple platforms.

He most recently was the VP-GM of KMGH Denver, where he also was responsible for overseeing its 24 hour News Channel, as well as associated digital and social media properties. He was part of a team that launched the market’s new Spanish language channel, KZCO (Azteca Colorado).

Prior to his role as VP-GM, he was KMGH’s news director.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Earlier in his career, Grandy was news director of KMOL San Antonio, Texas. He also held on-air journalist and news manager roles in markets in Texas, Wisconsin and Georgia.

Grandy is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. He served as chairman of the Colorado Broadcasters Association from 2006 to 2014.

Big congrats to Nexstar on such a first class hire. Byron is a great broadcaster and we miss him in Colorado.
