Charles Wolfertz Named WTAE Pittsburgh GM

Charles W. Wolfertz III today was promoted to president and general manager of Hearst Television’s WTAE, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh (DMA 23, having served as general sales manager since March 2012.

Wolfertz succeeds Michael J. Hayes, who has been named SVP and group head of Hearst Television Inc., based at the company’s New York headquarters.

Wolfertz’s appointment, effective June 1, was announced today by David J. Barrett, chairman and chief executive officer of Hearst Television Inc., and Jordan Wertlieb, president of Hearst Television.

Wolfertz came to WTAE from Belo Corp., having served as a sales manager at WHAS Louisville, Ky., and WFAA Dallas. He began his television career in 1994 as a national sales representative at Telerep in New York and Philadelphia before being promoted to sales manager in Telerep’s Atlanta office.

Wolfertz has participated in the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) Broadcast Leadership Training Program. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College, where he was a two-time All-American in lacrosse.
