Comcast Launches Linear Rights Metadata Mgt.

Comcast Technology Solutions, a division of Comcast Cable that serves advertiser, content provider, global operator and technology markets, introduced Linear Rights Metadata Management (LRM). The new offering lets content providers and their distribution partners solve the increasing complexity of the accurate delivery, entitlement and representation of content across mobile screens and live multichannel broadcasts.

At the forefront of SCTE 224 (the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ event scheduling and notification interface) rights metadata formatting and management, LRM helps content providers and operators transform traditionally very manual and labor-intensive processes into significantly more manageable workflows. Linear Rights Metadata Management from Comcast Technology Solutions provides a streamlined workflow and taps into the power of the 224 standard for a range of linear use cases including alternate content, accurate EPG guide illustration, content embargos, and linear delivery to both traditional MVPDS and online aggregators. Linear Rights Metadata Management allows content providers and operators to:

  • Ingest current program event data (via a robust set of APIs), and output a SCTE 224 compliant event that can be delivered to all distribution partners.
  • View all event data, identify program gaps, edit/extend events in real time, and verify proper delivery through an intuitive console.
  • Receive an aggregated feed of SCTE 224 metadata in a normalized format to reduce the complexity and time required by distribution partners to develop and integrate multiple processes.
  • Deliver a converged experience across linear and online environments.

“As new business models take shape, and technology and processes align accordingly, the need to connect all media, entertainment and technology functions and disciplines is essential,” said Barry Tishgart, VP, Comcast Technology Services. “Specifically, the ability to ensure content is delivered to the right audience at the right time is more complex than ever. Our new Linear Rights Metadata Management service helps content providers tailor schedules and electronic program guides for the unique needs of each viewer, and each device.”
