Cox To Rep Young’s 10 Stations

Young Broadcasting announced Monday afternoon that Cox Reps will represent it for national sales and will establish a dedicated Young Broadcasting sales team based in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. It will be devoted exclusively to the company’s 10 stations located primarily in top-100 media markets.

Young Broadcasting’s Adam Young Inc., which grew into one of the foremost TV representation firms in the country following its founding in 1944 by pioneer broadcaster Adam Young, will cease operations at the end of January.

Young Broadcasting President Deborah McDermott commented: “Adam Young Inc. has been such an important component of our business and it was with mixed emotions that we made this very important decision. The TV rep business has changed dramatically over the past decade, with an increasingly complex business environment forcing a wave of consolidations. Now, with Young Broadcasting financially structured as one of the strongest and healthiest television broadcast companies, we have joined forces with Cox, an industry leader. Together, both companies are poised to succeed and to take advantage of our rebounding business environment, as well as the new digital rep revenue system.”

Adam Young Inc. has operated from 11 offices throughout the country. In 1997, Young Broadcasting acquired the rep firm. The purchase furthered the broadcaster’s position in the media world, allowing Adam Young, Inc. to coordinate the efforts of its national sales force and generate stronger revenues.
