Gordon Smith, NAB To Receive Golden Mike
Gordon Smith and the NAB, the trade association that Smith leads as president and CEO, will be honored by the Broadcasters Foundation of America with the 2015 Golden Mike Award on Monday, Feb. 23, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
The black-tie fundraising gala will benefit the BFA’s mission of providing aid to broadcasters in need.
A former U.S. Senator, Smith has been at the helm of NAB since 2009.
“Gordon’s accomplishments for broadcasters are widely recognized across our profession,” said BFA Chairman Phil Lombardo. “But perhaps many are not aware of Gordon’s tireless efforts on behalf of the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation to help our colleagues in need.”
BFA President Jim Thompson said that NAB has “always at the forefront” in advocating for broadcasters. “Their task is often daunting, yet they persevere, providing legislative guidance and educational programs to advance broadcast radio and television.
“The NAB has provided the Broadcasters Foundation with platforms to helps us generate awareness about our mission, and we are thankful for that support. With the 2015 Golden Mike Award, we recognize their contribution,” Thompson added.

Prior to joining the NAB, Smith served as a two-term U.S. Senator from Oregon (1997-2009) and later as senior adviser in the Washington offices of Covington & Burling.
Born in Pendleton, Ore., Smith attended college at Brigham Young University, received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, and practiced law in New Mexico and Arizona before returning to Oregon to direct the family-owned Smith Frozen Foods business.
He and his wife Sharon live in Bethesda, Md., and are the parents of three children and two grandchildren.
The BFA has distributed millions of dollars in aid to thousands of broadcasters and their families who lost their livelihood through a catastrophic event, debilitating disease or unforeseen family tragedy
