Harris Broadcast Updates Its NEXIO Volt Server

Harris Broadcast has updated its software-based NEXIO Volt server, in response, it says, to customer demand for higher channel counts in a smaller form factor, in addition to offering more storage options.

The Volt server update increases processing power, storage and connectivity. It doubles the number of available record ports with four bi-directional high-definition channels (or up to eight standard-definition channels).

The next-generation server has started shipping and will be unveiled at the CABSAT 2013 show in Dubai.

News broadcasters will benefit from the available automatic generation of low-resolution images during ingest for low-resolution viewing, editing and conforming to high-resolution video for play-out.

In addition to the NEXIO Volt update, Harris is offering an integrated storage model that configures via Gigabit Ethernet or optional fiber channel interfaces. These redundant connections for both options maximize system resiliency and availability, while giving all channels instant access to all available content.

Initially, customers can use internal storage and scale to shared storage systems using Harris’ NEXIO Farad in RAID-60 or RAID-601 versions.

Additional benefits include 3Gb/s-capability for compliance with high-bandwidth facility upgrades; multi-lingual audio support; and back-to-back native playback of multiple codecs in any order.
