Helga Silva Named News VP At WSCV

The former news director and co-executive producer of Persiguiendo Injusticias, will head the news department at Telemundo’s Miami affiliate.

Helga Silva, award-winning journalist and broadcast executive with more than 20 years of experience, will join NBCU’s Telemundo affiliate WSCV Miami (DMA 16) effective Aug. 1.

Silva, a former news director in New York and Miami, joins WSCV from the Telemundo network, where, as co-executive producer, she helped launch the unsolved crimes program Persiguiendo Injusticias.

Prior to her career in television, Silva was a reporter for the Miami Herald. Her book, Children of Mariel, published in 1984, was based on her experience covering the Mariel Boatlift.

Silva is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She is a McCormick Fellow, having studied at Northwestern University’s Media Management Center, class of 2001. Silva is also the recipient of six Emmy Awards, and two New York Festival Awards for documentaries.

Helga Silva has an important place in the history of Spanish News in the USA. One can’t talk Spanish News without talking Helga Silva. She has been forming news professionals for over 2 decades and brought high standards and great insight to the Spanish world of news and television.
