Ibanez To Head MundoFox Programming

Veteran Spanish-language media executive Adriana Ibañez is named EVP of the new U.S. Hispanic broadcast network.

MundoFox, the new U.S. Spanish-language broadcast network launching next month, today named long-time Hispanic television creative executive Adriana Ibañez as executive vice president, programming.  Ibanez, who will be based in Los Angeles, will join the network Aug. 1, and will report to MundoFox President Emiliano Saccone.

In her new role, Ibañez will work closely with Saccone, overseeing the network’s entire programming strategy and content acquisitions.  MundoFox, which is slated to premiere on Monday, Aug. 13, will be available in more than 75% of U.S. Hispanic households at launch.

Ibañez joins MundoFox  after a nine-year stint at Telemundo Media, most recently as EVP of programming. Under her leadership, Telemundo was recognized as the fastest growing Spanish language broadcast network in total-day and primetime performance.

Ibañez was promoted to EVP of programming in October 2009, after holding the position of SVP of programming since 2006. She originally joined Telemundo as the SVP of scheduling and strategy in June 2003, in charge of overseeing the network’s grid strategy.

Before joining Telemundo, Ibañez was VP of programming for Canal Caracol in Colombia where she was part of the team that launched Caracol as one of the two original private networks in that country.

A native of Barranquilla, Colombia, Ibañez attended the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, where she received a degree in business management.

This effort is not my piece of cake. I am against foreign language transmissions taking place on United States soil. It does have a silver lining; it is filling some of those secondary OTA streams and will result in a more difficult task for the FCC to take away OTA spectrum and /or Bandwidth!

Strange that they still haven’t released a full affiliate listing with less than a month until they sign on, yet they’re still promising 75% coverage of the U.S.
