WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Kelly & Michael’ Take Top Talk Title

A week of originals helps it oust Dr. Phil’s reruns from the usual lead spot. Some other talkers post gains in the week ended June 7, with the standout being Wendy Williams, which shot up 31%. The game show race was a tight one with Wheel beating out Jeopardy and Family Feud by a tenth of a point.

The session ending June 7 featured repeat episodes of many shows, but Live with Kelly & Michael, which was one of several programs still showing  original episodes, jumped to the top of the talkers, just ahead of usual leader Dr. Phil.

For Kelly & Michael, which clocked a 2.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and grew 4% from last year at this time, it was the first time it found itself all alone in first place since the week of Jan. 5.

Dr. Phil went into a full week of reruns and slipped 7% to a 2.6, missing the victory by a tenth of a point.

Ellen DeGeneres recovered 5% to a third-place 2.3.

Other talkers in the plus column:

  • Steve Harvey, which surged 13% to a 1.7.
  • Wendy Williams, which went back into original shows and jumped 31%, the most of any talk show, to a 1.7.
  • Jerry Springer, which improved 8% to a 1.4, matching its season high and gaining 27% from last year, the biggest annual increase of any talker.

On the negative side, Dr. Oz lost 8% to a 1.2, matching its all-time low and slipping 29% from last year, which was the biggest year-to-year decline of any talk show.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Court show champion Judge Judy was syndication’s No. 1 strip overall for the sixth straight week with a steady 6.5 despite being mostly in repeats. Rookie Hot Bench was the second highest-rated gaveler, holding firm at a 2.0 with an all-rerun week.

Elsewhere, Access Hollywood had the strongest growth of any magazine, climbing 7% for the week to a 1.6 and shooting up 14% from last year.

Entertainment Tonight and sister show Inside Edition were both unchanged and remained tied at the top of the magazine rack for the fourth week in a row, with each clocking a 2.9.

The game show race was another close one. Wheel of Fortune just barely held on to the household lead with a 5% gain to a 6.4. Family Feud and Jeopardy were both a mere tenth behind with Feud up 5% to a 6.3, tying Jeopardy, which was up 3% to a 6.3. Year to year, Feud was up the most by far, ballooning 34%.
