KHOU GM Susan McEldoon Sets Retirement

She joined the Tegna Houston CBS affiliate in 2004 as sales director and moved into the GM slot in 2007.

Susan McEldoon, president and general manager of Tegna CBS affiliate KHOU Houston (DMA 7), announced her retirement today after a 30-year career in the broadcast industry.

“Susan initially considered retiring at the end of 2017. However, after the cascading impact of Hurricane Harvey on KHOU’s operations, her heartfelt sense of obligation and loyalty to the employees of KHOU made her reconsider,” said Peter Diaz, Tegna EVP. “Orchestrating operations across multiple sites in Houston/Dallas, she continues to work tirelessly to stabilize, restore and advance KHOU’s commitment to the community.

Diaz added, “Over the next several months, I will be interviewing general manager candidates to work alongside Susan during a transition period. Susan’s selflessness in postponing her retirement will allow for a seamless transition at the end of this year. Until then, please join me in thanking Susan for her many years of excellent leadership and dedication to the employees of KHOU and the Houston community.”

McEldoon joined KHOU in 2004 as director of sales and was promoted to VP and station manager in 2005. She was promoted to her current position in 2007.

Under her leadership, KHOU has received national journalism honors, including an Emmy for News Excellence, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for investigative reporting on two separate occasions and an Edward R. Murrow Award for social media.
