Mike Smith joins the CBS affiliate as director of local programming and production, while Dale Lockett is promoted to director of creative services and community marketing.

Belo-owned CBS affiliate KHOU Houston (DMA 10) on Wednesday announced two appointments in its programming and production and creative services and community marketing departments.

Mike Smith becomes director of local programming and production, effective in early April.

A television executive with over 30 years of industry experience, Smith will oversee the production of the station’s morning talk show Great Day Houston, as well as the daily operations of the production department, including the support of news programming, special projects and television specials.

Prior to joining KHOU, Smith worked for 15 years with Hubbard Broadcasting as director of programming and operations at its KSTP-KSTC Minneapolis, and more recently served as SVP, programming and production for Hubbard’s Reelzchannel in Albuquerque, NM. He has also held production positions at WHO Des Moines, Iowa, and WEYI Flint, Mich.

Smith holds a BA in telecommunications from Michigan State University.

KHOU also promoted Dale Lockett to director of creative services and community marketing. Lockett has been KHOU’s creative services director since February 2000. In this expanded role, he will also oversee the station’s many community and public affairs initiatives, including long-running campaigns such as the annual Food Drive, Blood Drive and Toy Drive, as well as Museum District Day, Wreaths Across America Houston, the Holiday Parade and more.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Prior to heading up KHOU’s Creative Services department, Lockett worked at the station as a promotion producer from 1997 to 1998, and then served as creative services director at KHOU’s sister station KENS San Antonio for two years.

Lockett has also held producer positions at KIRO Seattle, WCIX-WFOR Miami and KTXH Houston.

Since 2006, Lockett has served as chairperson of the CBS Promotion Caucus, an elected 10-member organization that works closely with CBS Advertising & Promotion on a variety of subjects including new ways to build local ratings and revenue-generating tie-in opportunities. As the Caucus chair, Lockett represents approximately 20 stations from different market sizes and geographic locations.

Lockett is a graduate of the University of Houston.
