Kingsley Smith Stepping Down As KTTV ND

GM Kevin Hale broke the news to the staff Tuesday afternoon. Assistant ND Tom Searson will be filling for Smith until a replacement is named. A search for that replacement is already underway.

Kingsley Smith is out as news director of Fox Television Stations’ KTTV Los Angeles after less than two years in the job.

GM Kevin Hale broke the news to newsroom staff this afternoon. “After 20 years with Fox Television Stations, Kingsley Smith has resigned from employment with the company and will be pursuing other opportunities,” he said in a statement.

Smith was appointed news director of the O&O in June 2011.

Smith joined KTTV from Fox’s WTXF Philadelphia, where he had been news director for three-and-a-half years. Prior to that, Smith spent nearly two years at KTVI St. Louis as news director and 15 years with KDFW Dallas where he began as a producer and executive producer of the station’s news division and was later promoted to assistant news director.

Assistant News Director Tom Searson will be filling for Smith until a replacement is named.

A Fox spokesperson confirmed that “an extensive search for his replacement is underway.”
