KKFQ YAKIMA, WA, CHANGES CALLS TO KUNW

Fisher Communications Inc. changed the call letters of its Spanish-language television station in Yakima, Wash. (DMA 126) from KKFQ to KUNW.

Fisher said the new call letters identify the station’s programming and the region it serves. The “U” represents the station’s affiliation with Univision and the “NW” represents the Northwest region.

“The call letter change to KUNW builds upon an already strong market position,” says Larry Roberts, the station’s regional vice president and general manager. “Our viewers recognize Univision as the No. 1 brand name in the Hispanic community nationally, and KUNW as a major influence locally.”
