KTVK Launches Weekly Political Show

The Phoenix indie's new Politics Unplugged half hour on Sundays will present interviews with top political leaders, debates and will attempt to offer "insight into what's at stake for Arizonans."

Belo’s independent KTVK Phoenix (DMA 12) is launching a new weekly program, Politics Unplugged, that the station says “promises to unplug the political rhetoric and provide Arizonans with facts and a healthy debate so they can make up their own minds on the most pressing issues facing Arizona and our country.”

The half-hour show will be hosted by veteran political reporter Frank Camacho and will air every Sunday at 5:30 p.m. following the station’s 5 p.m. newscast.

The weekly program will include interviews with top political leaders, debates and will attempt to offer “insight into what’s at stake for Arizonans.”

KTVK has partnered with two other organizations to supplement its commitment to provide first-rate political coverage. Partners include The Arizona Guardian, a website covering Arizona politics, and FirstStrategic, a company run by political insiders.

“2010 promises to be one of the most important political years in decades as the state and nation claw their way out of a deep recession,” said KTVK Executive News Director Brad Remington. “The state budget crisis, the heated national health care debate, a wide-open election year, and many other critical issues are all contributing to an elevated interest in what happens in government.”

Politics Unplugged will launch on Sunday, Jan. 10, a day before members of the Arizona House and Senate take up the second regular session of the 49th Arizona Legislature. Guests include Arizona Senate President Robert “Bob” Burns and Speaker of the House Kirk Adams.
